A familiar face that many people within the communities that make up the Adair – Casey / Guthrie Center School District have known for several years is stepping away from the district at the end of the school year.

Cody Matthewson has worn many hats in his eight years with AC/GC. Physical education teacher, strength and conditioning coach, activities director, head boys high school track coach, head football coach, and most recently, high school principal. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that his time working for AC/GC has made him very fond of the students, the staff, the residents in the three communities, and the athletes that he has worked with over the years.

“Everybody’s been very accepting and absolutely phenomenal. So I continue to advocate for the communities, for the school, and the activities, and the extracurriculars and everything, because it is a special place. And I want to see that continue to grow and flourish. When you put in that much time and effort, and sacrifice time away from your family, you want nothing but success to continue. Because you care about the kids, you care about the people.”

Matthewson mentions that while he has enjoyed his time as the high school principal, a short stint at the beginning of the second semester stepping in to lead strength and conditioning classes really reminded him why he got into the field of education. He adds that another part of this decision is the opportunity to move to his wife’s hometown, and be closer to family. Matthewson shares that AC/GC has been an integral part of his life, and something that he will always remember fondly.
