West Central Valley sophomore Tryce Dlouhy explains how wrestling strengthens his mental side.

Dlouhy notes that he began wrestling at a very young age in preschool, but then switched to playing basketball for a while, before a few of his friends convinced him to jump back into the sport. He describes his wrestling style similar to that of a lion, as he keeps on the offensive attack. Dlouhy shares that it takes a lot from the inside to withstand wrestling.

“How mentally tough you have to be. How the mental aspect, it carries over not just to wrestling, but to life.”

Dlouhy competed in weight class 175 for Class 1A, where he dropped his first match to West Hancock’s Jacoby Subject in a fall (3 minutes and 46 seconds), then was defeated by Underwood’s Kaleb Nelson in a fall (5:28) in the consolation round to end his tournament. Dlouhy will look to build and return stronger in his junior campaign.
