As coach Cardenas wraps up his first week as head coach of the Perry Bluejays soccer team, coach Cardenas praised former head coach Gary Overla for over 20 years of dedication to the program.
Cardenas explained that he plans on keeping in contact with Overla while implementing his own ideas for the program.
“I played for him (Overla) so we’ve known each other for many years and we have a pretty good relationship and I mean it’s not easy to run a program for over 20 years the way he did. I’m not going to start from zero, you know, I’m going to start with the base that he created. There’s no reason why we should start from 0 when he already had a good system going.”
The first game of the season is just over a week away, with Perry playing host to the ADM Tigers in the season opener on Monday, March 30th.
