A community event in Jefferson that has a global impact is taking place next week.
Home State Bank is hosting Operation Meal Pack on Wednesday at Wild Rose Casino in Jefferson. Marketing and Communications Director Jackie Cunningham says the bank is continuing to partner with Midwest Mission as its meals are locally packaged and then are sent across the world in areas of need.
Cunningham points out that last year’s event drew 155 community members who worked alongside bank staff to prepare thousands of meals. This year, she explains, they are looking to make 30,000 meals in two hours, while keeping in mind the quality and accuracy of the meals, as the weight must be close to exact for the packages to not be refused when traveling internationally.
Cunningham notes that Home State Bank has been doing this venture since 2020 as they are always looking for ways for their staff to interact and give back to the community. She details that Greene County Medical Center is once again sponsoring free t-shirts to those individuals that pre-registered for this opportunity. Cunningham adds that while they have a full list of volunteers, a waiting list has been created that people can sign up for, as sometimes plans change and they may need others that can help fill in.
