
An Adair man is accused of attempted murder and kidnapping.
According to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, 33 year old Cristian Ortiz of Adair, was arrested on four charges. According to court documents, on Saturday, March 14th at 11:23pm, Ortiz had been at a gas station in Adair, and asked the victim to come get him. Court documents show that while in transit, Ortiz punched the victim in the head while demanding to know where his son was. The criminal complaint shows that the victim stopped and exited the vehicle, and Ortiz took it and left.
Court documents state that as the victim walked back to the gas station, Ortiz hit the victim and pinned the person to a bridge, and ran the victim over after they fell to the ground. Court documents show that Ortiz grabbed the victim and pulled them back into the car. The affidavit states that the victim was able to get out of the vehicle and called 911, while heading to a bar at 307 Audubon Street.
The criminal complaint states that Ortiz claimed he was trying to get his son, who he said was missing. Court documents show that the victim told police that the child was taken to a safe place out of fear of Ortiz. Ortiz was arrested and charged with attempted murder, a Class B Felony; third degree kidnapping, a Class C Felony; willful injury causing bodily harm, a Class D Felon;, first offense for domestic abuse assault-causing injury or mental illness, a serious misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a traffic violation. He was booked into the Adair County Jail where he remains under a $25,000 bond. .
