Mustangs boys basketball had a stellar year, making it all the way to the substate semifinal game with a record of 13-9. DCG did well in what many fans expected to be a rebuilding year, and credit for that goes to the players never giving up when things got difficult.

The team stumbled out of the gate, going 3-3 in their first six games, with questions about what their identity was on offense without Kyle Cason. After a good stretch, the team took some hits from illness and injury. New players got chances, and head coach Joel Rankin found what worked, and the boys took off.

They won 5 of 6 games down the stretch thanks in large part to Chase Perrin and Luke Lorenzen, who became the catalysts of both the offense and defense. They set records over the last stretch of the season. Perrin set the mark for three pointers in a game and in a single season, while Lorenzen set the record for blocks in a single game.

Although they fell to the Dragons, this past campaign was a roller coaster of ups and downs that proved this group of Mustangs is resilient and tough. They took hits, injuries, illness, and bad games, but bounced back each time. They believed in themselves, rallied around each other, and went farther than many expected.

With three senior starters graduating and more unknowns on the horizon, it will be a long offseason for basketball fans in DCG, but if this past year is proof of anything, the Mustangs will be ready for whatever comes next.
