Three months into his new role, Tim Vick is looking forward to seeing Adel continue to grow.

Vick was sworn in as the new Adel City Administrator on January 13. He has more than 25 years of experience of public administration, including over two decades serving as either a City Manager or City Administrator. He most recently served as the City Manager in Manchester for the past 20 years.

Vick’s wife is from the West Des Moines area and he says they were looking for ways to get closer to her family. He adds that he was also looking for some new professional challenges and decided to apply for the Adel administrator position.

Vick talks about what drew him to the community.

“Adel is really exciting, they have a lot of stuff going on for them and really have a great future ahead of them. I really wanted to be a part of that, to see their growth and development within the city and Dallas County. Being part of that metro area, but still having the rural feel to it and trying to find that identity and make sure we maximize the identity. At the same token, seeing the growth and the potential available to it.”

Vick describes some of his goals for the city in his new administrator role.

“As part of the growth, we’re looking at how we can expand out and really plan for our growth. But at the same token, the town has been around for quite awhile and they have infrastructure needs that need to be addressed as well. So we’re really looking at doing a capital improvement plan to start working on improving our streets, repairing the infrastructure. Everyone sees a street top when we put a new street in, but they don’t always see the underground stuff, the water mains and sewer mains that are 50 to 75 years old and they’re starting to reach the end of their life. We need to look at those as well. We want to preserve history where we can, but at the same token, we want to strive for our next years.”
