Mustangs girls’ track and field is back in action today over in Indianola, Iowa, for the Simpson High School Classic.

This event is hosted at Simpson College, the home of the Storm, and gives these athletes the chance to run on an NCAA track. For Dallas Center-Grimes, they’ve competed at Northern Iowa and Iowa State so far this year, but both of those were indoor competitions. 12 days ago, the girls ran at the Lied Recreation Athletic Center and came away 14th out of 25 in team score. Two events saw Mustangs medal. Leighton Stanford finished in 3rd place in the 400m, and the 4x800m relay earned 2nd. Those runners will hope to back up their success from the early portion of the season.

The meet at Simpson will be the first outdoor competition of the year. The classic hosts 14 schools, including DCG, and the Mustangs look to perform well enough to earn themselves a spot in the top ten for the first time in 2025.
