Panorama Activities Director, plus Boys Track and Field Head Coach Bruce Dahlhauser outlines the advantages that multi-sport student athletes have.
On the Panthers Boys Track and Field Team, there are several athletes that are coming off winter sports such as juniors Reed Draper and Cruz Crandall, who are apart of the basketball squad, or seniors Syler Shaffer, Zach Hayden, and Blake Schwartz, who all wrestle.
Dahlhauser mentions that students that are competing in different sports throughout the year have a leg up in terms of conditioning. However, he does share a specific example with the benefit of wrestling.
“If we’re looking for kids to compete, and learn how to compete, so when they get into track mode, they know that ‘I’m just going to compete to better my time,’ or when we get to a meet, and they’re lined up next to somebody else in the lane beside them, ‘I’m going to compete to beat them.’ And wrestling, by far above all other sports, forces you to do that, so I really like that aspect of what you can get from wrestling.”
Dahlhauser notes that students not involved in a winter sport will have more off season training to get into proper shape before the season. Panorama Boys Track and Field will participate in their second meet of the year next Tuesday, March 31st in Earlham.
