Severe Weather Awareness Week continues this week, and today’s focus is preparedness.

Dallas County Emergency Management Director AJ Seely says spring and summer weather can be unpredictable. That’s why he stresses the importance of having a plan in place to deal with everything from torrential rain to wind or even tornadoes.

He adds that it’s also good to have an emergency kit ready to go. The kits should include enough water for three days, non-perishable food, flashlights and batteries, a weather radio, tarp and more.

Seely details that families and residents should have an evacuation plan in place for fires or tornadoes to make sure everyone knows where to meet.
