Mustangs girls’ track and field went to Indianola to compete against 13 other schools at the Simpson High School Classic. The girls earned 8th place as a team, with sprinter Leighton Stanford placing the highest for any DCG athlete on the day with a silver in the 400m hurdles.

On the track, Kealey Johnson did well in the 400m sprint, making it into the top ten with a 7th-place finish. In the 400m, now with hurdles, Leighton Stanford finished with the top placing for a DCG athlete at the classic. Her time of 1:07 was good for 2nd place and a silver medal.

The Mustangs relay teams were at the top of their game at Simpson. In the 4×200, the team composed of Medden Seeman, Khloe Crawford, Macey Rohrbeck, and Nevah Mayfield combined for 3rd place with a time of 1:53.32, just three seconds away from 1st. In the sprint medley, Mayfield and Stanford, along with Delaney Fetters and Sydney Keller, raced their way to bronze medal positioning with a 1:53.32. 

In the field, Lauren Logan threw the discus and the shot put well for 11th and 15th places, respectively. Jacey McFarland and Madison Messerly both competed in the high jump, and both cleared 4’-10.” DCG earned 32 team points, good for 8th place out of 14th. The Mustangs will be in action next tomorrow afternoon at the Johnston Quad.
