The Greene County high school track & field squads began the outdoor season on Tuesday at the Simpson College High School Classic in Indianola under favorable weather conditions. Coach Derek Merk’s girls’ team competed in a field of 12 teams and finished in ninth place with 27 points. Indianola won the team title with 167 points, followed by Valley of West Des Moines 126, Gilbert112, Urbandale 72, Atlantic 61, Norwalk 53, Wayne (Corydon) 37, Dallas Center-Grimes 32.5, 27 for the Rams, Carlisle 21, Centeville 19.5, and Knoxville 13 points.

The Rams had no first place finishes, but did finish second twice, once individually and once in a relay. Senior Kaycee Pittman was the runner-up in the 800 meter run in 2:27.72 and the 4 x 200 meter relay was second in 1:52.92 with senior Addison Gannon, sophomore Hanna Fouch, sophomore Ashlynn Ball, and senior Becca Anderson. The girls had a third place finish in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 4:20.45 with Pittman, Fouch, Ball, and Anderson.
