Grand Junction Fire and Rescue is hosting a fundraiser meal tomorrow.
Rescue Captain Mandy Krieger says the fish fry begins at 5:30pm tomorrow at the fire station, where people can get three pieces of cod, coleslaw, fries and mac and cheese for $12 and kids five and under can eat for free. She points out the proceeds will be used to purchase a new ambulance.
Krieger notes that their current ambulance is a 2001 model and parts are not only getting harder to find for repairs, but also they are expensive. She explains that the newly assembled ambulance that they are looking to purchase is $398,000, and it comes with four-wheel drive, and other advanced safety features that will help keep not only the crews safe, but also the patients, especially when it comes to rural areas and the unpredictable weather conditions.
Krieger points out that they have raised about $25,000, but the production for a new ambulance is at least a two year waiting period. She details that they have also applied for a Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation grant for $300,000 and that they have received a letter inviting them to their award ceremony where they will find out for sure how much money they will get.
Krieger believes that it is incredibly important for them to have a new ambulance because it is another first responder crew that can get somewhere quickly and safely with the latest equipment to help all patients.
