After three indoor track & field meets and one outdoors between March 10-24, the Greene County teams have been tested early in the season. The Rams, a Class 2A program for the postseason, have gone against several 4A and 3A programs, as well as some in 2a and 1A.
The Rams have shown strength in several events, most notably on the girls’ side from a strong senior class led by sprinter Becca Anderson and middle distance runner Kaycee Pittman. Depending on who is in the lineup, the girls have done well in five of the seven relays offered in Iowa girls’ track and field.
The Greene County boys don’t have senior Broc Stream due to surgery on a knee when ligaments were torn in January playing basketball for the Rams. He placed seventh at State in the long jump in 2A last season and was a key runner on relays. So far, strengths have been the long jump with junior Jaron Jacobs and nearly everything senior middle distance runner Drew Wolterman runs individually and on relays.
Next on the schedule is a coed meet in Earlham on Tuesday, March 31. The Rams host three coed high school meets this season on April 10, April 20, and the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference meet on May 7.
