The Perry Jayettes soccer team defense held out against the West Central Valley Wildcats on Thursday as the scrimmage resulted in a 0-0 draw in overtime.
The wind played a factor as both teams were forced to make adjustments in the first half, but both teams were on the attack as Perry had the first shot of the match, caught by the Wildcat keeper. From here, West Central Valley fired up, applying constant pressure to the Jayettes but Perry did not waver, stacking multiple girls into the box to keep the lanes full against the Wildcats. 60 minutes would not be enough, as the score remained 0-0 going into overtime. With 30 seconds left, a slide tackle by the Jayettes resulted in West Central Valley taking a penalty kick, but the shot veered right, keeping the score at 0-0 resulting in a draw.
With a week before their season opener, the Jayettes return to practice to iron out some kinks before playing host to the Colfax-Mingo Tigerhawks on Friday. The match is set to begin at 7pm.
