Chad Black begins his second season as head coach of the Greene County High School boys’ soccer program with Chad Schwander in year two as the assistant coach. The Rams open the 2026 campaign tomorrow vs. Grand View Christian in Des Moines at the James W. Cownie Soccer Complex on the southeast side of the city.
Soccer began in 2018 for the Rams and every season has produced a winning record. There was no 2020 season due to the Pandemic. Greene County went 7-4-1 in 2025 and returns all but three regulars from that time. Coach Black is confident the combination of returning varsity experience, plus players newer to the varsity will produce a competitive product on the pitch.
After Monday, the Rams stay on the road for March 31 action at Goeppinger field in Boone vs. the Toreadors. The varsity teams will play first at 5:30 p.m. in Boone with one-half of JV play to follow the varsity contest. The Rams open the home portion of the schedule on April 2 in Jefferson at Linduska Field vs. the West Marshall based Central Iowa United team as the second half of a girl/boy doubleheader.
