
The Perry Bluejays track team had their first official meet of the season on Monday, traveling to Bondurant-Farrar High School to kick off the competitive season. Freshmen Xavier Leake continues to improve in the long jump event, clearing 19 feet in the season opener.
Leake, who participated in the indoor championships in Ames, jumped for 18 feet 3.75 inches and has already improved. In his first outdoor track meet with the Bluejays, Leake returned to the long jump event, this time claiming 6th place with a jump of 19 feet 4.5 inches. Leake secured 9 points for the Bluejays to help secure 41 team points and fifth place as a squad.
Leake looks to continue to improve throughout his rookie campaign, already surpassing his benchmark set at the Indoor Championships in Ames.
