Those looking to learn more about how to protect themselves from scammers can attend an event in Perry.

The Iowa Department of Insurance and Financial Services and AARP invite area residents to join them for a free educational Stop the Scammers event on April 14. The program will be held from 8:30-10 a.m. at the Hotel Pattee in Perry.

The two entities say con artists target people ages 60 and older, taking $28.3 billion from millions of Americans each year. The group’s team of fraud fighters will share real-world tips and tools that can help protect residents and their loved ones.
