The Greene County High School soccer teams are scheduled to host Central Iowa United at Linduska Field in Jefferson today/tonight for the girl/boy twin bill in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. If the weather cooperates, the girls’ teams play at 5:30 p.m. with the boys to follow. CIU is a combined program based at West Marshall High School in State Center. Greene County’s soccer program is also combined as a sharing agreement allows students from Paton-Churdan to participate with Greene County students.
Of the four teams involved, only the Greene County boys have played so far this season. Coach Chad Black’s Rams are 2-0 after road wins vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines) by a 2-1 score on March 30 and a 9-0 victory on March 31 in Boone. Senior Franklin Regalado scored six second half goals vs. the Toreadors, all within a 13 minute stretch of the second half, as the Rams broke open a close match.
Wes Anderson is in his second season as head coach of the Greene County girls’ soccer team. The Rams enter the season with a 32 match losing streak dating back to late in the 2023 campaign. Hopes are higher for this season with more than 20 girls out for the sport and what they believe will be an improved offense. 2025 saw the Rams score just three goals.
