During the second funnel week, the Iowa Senate debated House File 2491.

District 12 Senator Amy Sinclair says the bill would waive tuition and mandatory fees at regents institutions for certain veterans with service-connected disabilities. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this waiver comes in after other funding options, like the GI Bill.

“This would provide that last dollar level of support for any veteran who was unable to qualify for any of those other options of funding. And it would only apply to veterans who have 100 percent service-connected disability. And it applies to tuition and mandatory fees, not for other costs outside of that.”

Sinclair mentions that veterans would only be eligible to apply for this waiver after exhausting any other state or federal assistance. House File 2491 has been enrolled, meaning it is in its final form and awaiting signatures from Sinclair, Speaker of the House Pat Grassley, Chief Clerk of the House Meghan Nelson and Governor Kim Reynolds.
