Mustangs girls soccer starts up their 2026 season tonight with a battle against a tough Central Iowa Metro League opponent in the Southeast Polk Rams.
Last season, the Mustangs had a run that will be remembered for a long time at Dallas Center-Grimes High School. The Mustangs put together one of the best girls’ soccer seasons in the history of the school with a run to a state championship in Class 2A. A 1-0 win over Waverly-Shell Rock finished off a 15-4-1 year as well as allowed the team to end the year on a nine-game win streak. They played their best soccer down the stretch when it mattered the most. They were a perfect 6-0-0 in Little Hawkeye play as well.
Six seniors graduated from the 2025 squad, so there are big shoes to fill for this next team. There are four seniors on this year’s team, and each will need to lead in their own way to make this team their own. Head coach Dan James knows that expectations and outside noise can weigh heavily on a group, so he wants his girls to focus on what they can control. The Mustangs will take this season one game, one practice, and one rep at a time to be the best soccer team they can be. Kick-off for the girls is at 7:30 pm at DCG High School.
