Less than ideal weather conditions greeted the high school soccer teams at Linduska Field in Jefferson last night. Greene County opened the home portion of the schedule vs. the combined Central Iowa United program based at West Marshall High School in State Center.Cool, wet, and windy conditions prevailed, although the rain stopped prior to game time as the CIU girls won 2-0, and the Rams took the boys’ contest 11-1 by the 10 goal rule with 22:18 left on the second half clock.

Both girls’ squads opened the season last night and for much of the contest it looked like a Greene County “own goal” would be the only scoring. The Rams put it into their own net with 9:41 left in the first half, and CIU senior Addison Turner scored with 7:19 left in half number two to complete the scoring. Ram head coach Wes Anderson pointed out some bright spots for his team. “Seeing us execute playing the ball to the corners and sending Amelia Gallagher on runs was a high point, along with senior Leah McCormick and freshmen Nicole Nunez and Amy Medrano control the midfield.” Goalkeeper Lucy Vanderlinden had 10 saves for the Rams. Although the loss was the program’s 33rd straight, the Rams played all 80 minutes with CIU scoring just one time. The Rams lost to the Trojans 4-1 in 2025.

The Rams improved to 3-0 in boys’ soccer while the CIU boys were playing for the first time this season. Leading 2-1 with just over 10 minutes of playing time gone in the first half, the Rams scored the final nine goals of the match. Greene County led 6-1 at intermission, then scored five times in the first 17:42 of half number two, ending the contest early. Freshman Murphy Schwander had the last two goals of the night, which were the first two of his career. Senior Fredy Aguilar scored four goals with two from senior Franklin Regalado, and one each from senior Carter Hinote, and juniors Ethan Carstens and Lincoln Schwander. Senior Teagan Chisholm was in goal in half number two and sophomore Jadyn kept goal in the second half.
