A bill celebrating America’s 250th birthday in the Iowa legislature continues on.
Representative for House District 23 Ray Sorensen says that the America 250 bill is an all encompassing wish list of things that legislators would like to see get done for the national milestone. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio a few of those items.
“Some of the things the bill includes are a one-time July sales tax holiday, which would mirror the existing August tax holiday and it would apply around the birth of our country. So July 3rd to the 5th of 2026, and clothing under $100 would be tax free. Another one that we hear a lot is that our Christmas decorations are kind of basic at the Capitol and the goal would be to make the celebration visible and more beautiful and to inspire a must-see destination during the holidays.”
Sorensen shares that one of the ideas for the Christmas decorations was to let children across the state submit ornaments for display. He adds that another part would be to have a Constitution Day in schools, which would be on September 17th.
