Earlier this month, Army Chief of Staff General Randy George was asked for his resignation and told to get immediate retirement.

US Senator Chuck Grassley says he recommended the Iowan from Alden to West Point Academy, where George succeeded and served in the various different ranks in the military. Grassley points out that he has kept in contact with George, including his time as the Army Chief of Staff before he was forced to resign. He talks about how much time George had left in his last post.

“It’s pretty simple in my mind. He should’ve been allowed to serve out his tenure, which probably would’ve been only about another 15 months. You’re usually four years in that position.”

Grassley shares his thoughts following the decision to make the general leave his position and take immediate retirement.

“I don’t know the rationale why he was removed. But his service to the country, that’s no way to treat a four-star general. And obviously, I resent it because he’s a person I’ve had interest in going back to the 1980s when I nominated him.”

Sources say George was appointed Army Chief of Staff by President Joe Biden and he resigned on April 2nd at the direction of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.
