While baseball season hasn’t started yet, area residents can learn about the history of the sport next week in Adel.
Programming Specialist Lily Schwarz says the Adel Public Library will host How Iowa Met Baseball: The Myths, The History, The Players at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the community room.
She adds that professor and baseball enthusiast John Liepa will explore the myths of baseball’s origins, the early history and evolution of the game, the sport’s journey to Iowa and the role of the Civil War in spreading its popularity. Schwarz details that audiences will also be able to view an extensive collection of baseball memorabilia.
She invites community members to attend Tuesday’s free program, which is being presented in partnership with Humanities Iowa.
