Raccoon Valley Bank was recently recognized during the Perry Chamber’s Annual Dinner.

The bank received the Spirit of Perry Business of the Year Award in the large business category. New this year, three categories – nonprofit, small business and large business – were recognized.

Raccoon Valley Bank was nominated for exemplifying what it means to be a community partner through support of local businesses, investing in economic growth and active community involvement.

President and CEO Terry Nielsen talks about his reaction to receiving the award.

“First of all, we’re very thankful. Our roots here in Perry run really deep so it’s fantastic that we were honored.”

He adds that the awards speaks to not only the bank employees who donate their personal time to volunteer in various areas but also the ownership of the Garst family who are committed to the Perry community.

“Giving back has always been part of the Garst family motto. One thing that my dad always instilled in me is to pay it forward and the bank always seems like whenever there’s a cause or something needs to be done, you’ll find that we have very great passion for that. We really appreciate the award and we look forward to continuing our efforts on making Perry the best place to work and play and live.”

The nomination letter added that Raccoon Valley Bank consistently contributes to Chamber and community events, encourages staff volunteerism, and gives back to community projects, including the Perry Business Support Grant this past year.

Betsy Peterson Designs and The Nudgers were also recognized in the small business and nonprofit categories for the Spirit of Perry Business of the Year Award.
