Greene County and Winterset met in high school non-conference soccer on Tuesday under very good weather conditions. Greene County lost the boys’ match 2-1 and the Rams are now 5-2 while the Huskies improve to 2-7. Both Greene County losses have been by one goal and on the road. The girls’ final was 3-0 in favor of the Huskies, who improved to 2-6 while the Rams fell to 0-5.

The boys’ goal was scored by Fredy Aguilar with about 20 minutes remaining in the second half. Winterset scored twice in the final 10 minutes to secure just their second victory in nine matches. Coach Chad Black told Raccoon Valley Radio his team had 21 total shots including seven shots on goal. He estimated the Rams had time of possession on their side by a heavy margin.

The girls from Greene County remain scoreless on the season. Coach Wes Anderson Junior London Harris had two shots on goal and senior Nala Losee had one. The coach told Raccoon Valley Radio senior goalkeeper Lucy Vander Linden had more than 10 saves, including the 500th of her career. Anderson said, “I definitely have mixed feelings about that statistic, but very proud of Lucy for stopping 500 shots on goal in her career.”
