Perry High School’s prom returns on Saturday with a brightly-colored theme.
According to Junior Prom Committee Member Cate Erickson, the theme for this year is “Coastal Nights.” She adds that members of the committee have been working on creating a large wave to use as a backdrop for the walk-in, along with a neon sign.
“I’m really excited to see how the stage turns out. The wave, we’ve been working on it and seeing it go from nothing to this really cool thing is going to be cool. And I’m excited to see it put together with the sign.
Fellow Committee Member Lily Hollingsworth details that the night will begin with the walk-in at 6 p.m. at the Perry Performing Arts Center, with the doors opening to the public at 5:30 p.m. She shares that the dance will be held from 8-11 p.m. at La Poste, where students can enjoy snacks from Chick-fil-A along with mocktails, popcorn and ice cream. Erickson adds that the dance will also feature a photo booth and prizes will be handed out throughout the night.
Hollingsworth is looking forward to celebrating with her classmates on Saturday night.
“What I’m most looking forward to is probably just all the events we have going on. So rather than homecoming, you don’t just have the dance floor, we have a photo booth, different photo op areas. And also the prizes, we got some really cool prizes this year, some trending things I think students are really excited for.”
She explains that the night will wrap up with after-prom at Spare Time in Des Moines from 12-2 a.m., which will feature bowling, arcade games, laser tag along with a sketch artist, pizza and drinks.
