The Iowa Department of Agriculture released their recent crop report on Monday.
Iowa State University Extension Field Agronomist for Adair County Aaron Saeugling says that April has been a bit cool this year, and a little damp as well. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what farmers should be watching for if they are getting out in the fields.
“We’re probably going to battle a few damp spots here and there. So I tell producers, make sure you’re watching your depth, especially if you planted prior to this last rain event to go ahead and recheck your depth. When you get back into the field, soil conditions may have changed a little bit for you and just be conscious of that and kind of be aware.”
Saeugling mentions that obviously farmers want to be aggressive in weed control management, although it’s been a bit of a challenge due to Mother Nature. He adds that the forecast is looking favorable this week for farmers to be able to get some work done in the fields.
