A homeless man was recently sentenced to prison for a Greene County incident, as well as five other counties.

According to court documents, 42-year-old Shawn Jones pled guilty in Greene County District Court to an amended charge of a Class D Felony for forgery and an aggravated misdemeanor for third degree theft. Court documents show that Jones was sentenced to a total of seven years in prison, which will also be served concurrently with charges and parole violations in five other counties, including Calhoun, Hamilton, Dallas, Sac and Webster. 

The charges stem from an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department for two bad checks that were used at a Jefferson business on December 23rd and 27th, 2025 for a total of $849. The checks were written from an active account where the owner’s checkbook was stolen in Calhoun County. 

Jones was also ordered to pay victim restitution. As per the plea agreement, Jones had an original charge of a Class D Felony-habitual felon amended to the felony he pled guilty to, as well as two other charges, including a Class D Felony-habitual felon and another aggravated misdemeanor for third degree theft were dismissed.
