A Perry man was recently arrested on weapon charges from an incident that occurred in 2023.
According to court documents, 36-year-old Ramon Melara-Cerna was arrested on Thursday following a warrant served by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. Court records show the arrest stemmed from charges during an incident in August of 2023.
The criminal complaint states that a deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about a reckless driver. Court documents show that Melara-Cerna was the driver and the deputy observed he had bloodshot eyes along with multiple open containers inside the vehicle.
The affidavit states that before conducting field sobriety tests, the deputy searched Melara-Cerna and found a magazine for a firearm, which was also inside the vehicle. Court records show that the defendant’s two-year-old son was in the backseat of the vehicle.
Melara-Cerna was arrested and charged on a warrant for dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by a felon, a Class D Felony; child endangerment and operating while under the influence, 2nd offense, both aggravated misdemeanors; and possession or carrying of dangerous weapons while under the influence, a serious misdemeanor.
