Dallas County Hospital and Family Medicine Clinics highlighted National Nursing Week with an annual award on Friday.

Hospital staff members gathered to see the DAISY Award handed out to a nurse who exemplifies going above and beyond for patient care. This year’s winner was Jess Nevitt with Ambulatory Services.

Jacci Borchers, Director of Specialty Clinics and Ambulatory, talked about why Nevitt was nominated.

“Jess consistently demonstrates excellence through her efficiency, strong teamwork and unwavering commitment to patient-centered care. Jess is always willing to jump in and help out where needed and help take care of patients.”

Nevitt talked about her reaction to receiving the award and why she likes working at Dallas County Hospital.

“I was excited to receive this award today. I feel like it’s something that all nurses work towards. It was very exciting for my patients to recognize me. I love working at Dallas County Hospital for the family-type atmosphere. And everybody knows your name, you’re not just a number.”

There were three nominees for the DAISY Award this year. Nominations are accepted anytime for the DAISY Award and can be made by a patient or their family, co-workers and community members. The other two nominees included Beth Dorsett with Surgery and Tonya Summerson in ER Med-Surg.
