Jefferson’s Carter Morton, the sixth year senior at the University of Northern Iowa, won the pole vault and was second in the javelin throw in Ames at Iowa State on Friday at the Cyclones’ Twilight Meet. The 2020 Greene County High School graduate won the pole vault at 16 feet, 7-1/4 inches. He was the runner-up in the javelin throw with a personal best toss of 181′ 8″.
A decathlete, Morton works two or three of the 10 decathlon events at most meets, competing in the full decathlon sparingly. He’s done one decathlon so far in 2026 and is hopeful his score is high enough to qualify him for the NCAA Championships. He’s the son of Chad and Deb Morton of Jefferson.
