Adel-DeSoto-Minburn junior Isabelle Book, as well as seniors Haley Nelson and Lauren Hagedorn will make an appearance on tonight’s Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine on KDLS to highlight the 2026 Drake Relay competition in Des Moines.
For Drake, Book qualified in the 4×100 and 4×200 Meter Relay, while Nelson was involved in the 100 Meter Hurdles, the Shuttle Hurdle Relay, and 4×100 Meter Relay, and Hagedorn participated in the Discus Throw. Nelson was pretty satisfied with her performances during the meet.
“Our relays came in pretty highly placed, and we proceeded to place in both of those, which was really good, and I just felt really confident on that. And then I went in (ranked) 25th on the 100 Meter Hurdles (and) jumped up to ninth, so I was really excited about that. Nothing to complain about there.”
For the high school portion of the Drake Relays, all classes compete against each other, meaning the smaller schools and bigger schools are lumped into one category, which Hagedorn believes is beneficial.
“I think it just pushes you to do your best, especially with girls that are competing at the highest level in the state (of Iowa) and just pushing you to just throw your best or run your best.”
Book emphasizes that her teammates are constantly supporting her throughout the season.
“I think they’re always really encouraging no matter if you have a good race or a bad race. And then for the relays, they always push you to do your best, and they remember why you’re going out and why you’re running, even if you’re tired, and just are always pushing you.”
The Tiger Girls placed first at the Raccoon River Conference Meet this past Wednesday. ADM is preparing for the Class 3A State Qualifying Meet in Glenwood this Thursday.
The full interview with Nelson, Hagedorn, and Book can be heard during tonight’s Raccoon Valley Bank Dallas County PM Sports Magazine on KDLS 94.3/99.7 FM and AM 1310, beginning at 6pm. The program also includes interviews in the activities departments from Perry and Dallas Center-Grimes High Schools.
