The Mary J Barnett Memorial Library is looking forward to seeing youth continue participation in a reading program.
Library Director Jerri Hawkins says that the library continues to partner with and offer the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio more about getting signed up for the program if you aren’t already.
“This program is available for all families with children between the ages of birth and five. Registration is always open and it’s free. So you just come into the library, write down your child’s name, tell us if you give us permission to take photos of your child and use it in social media. And then they get a free book just for signing up.”
Hawkins mentions that this is a great opportunity for children to get rewards while learning to enjoy and love reading before they get to school. She adds that the children earn a prize for every 100 books that are read, whether it’s 100 different books or one book read 100 times.
