A new event will highlight the importance of micro-chipping dogs on Saturday in Adel.

Dennis Leininger says Blue Kindness, along with the Adel Police Department, will host Cops Love Dogs from 9 a.m. to noon at the Pavilion, 10th and Main.

He invites Adel community members to bring their dogs and enjoy meeting members of the police department along with their pups.

“We try to find ways to provide positive interactions between the Adel Police Department and the community to enhance communications, connectivity and relationships. We settled on this event because first of all, who doesn’t love dogs. And the officers get about a lost dog every week at least and have difficulty getting it back. So one of the things that we thought of is that we would provide free microchip insertion to the dog owners. There is a chip reader at the Adel Police Department Station and so that might enhance the officer’s ability to get the puppy’s home a little bit faster.”

Leininger adds that the event will also feature free coffee and drinks from The Morning Grind, photos, paw prints, local dog treats and a drawing to win a free grooming from Groovy Grooms.
