The Greene County School Board met in regular session Wednesday evening.

The meeting started with a public hearing, followed by approval of the current fiscal year budget amendment as presented. Then, Superintendent Brett Abbotts said the site work is beginning at the high school for preparation for installation of solar panels, which are on schedule to start next month.

The Board then approved four student driving permits for Cheyenne Clouse, Keatyn Becker, Macy Bills and Tyler Pope, along with two fundraiser requests for the softball and baseball programs as well as the middle school dance. Additionally, the Board approved increasing the bus driver wages of $0.90 per hour for regular routes and $0.40 per hour for activities.

They also approved purchasing a literacy curriculum of HMH for the middle school for $81,030, with partial payment to come from the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and then splitting the remaining cost over the next two fiscal years. The Board also approved a total of 13 teacher leader contracts for the next school year, and updating the bus barn lighting to LED for a total of $30,526 from ROI Energy, with payment to come from Physical Plant and Equipment Levy fund.

The Board also approved a Memorandum of Understanding for the Iowa Jobs for America’s Graduates (iJAG) program for 11th and 12th grades for $25,000, as well as an agreement with Region XII Council of Governments Western Iowa Transfit, both for the next school year. The meeting ended with Abbotts acknowledging School Board Appreciation Month and handed out certificates to each of the five board members.
