The City of Perry is currently in the midst of flushing fire hydrants.
Perry Water Works started flushing fire hydrants yesterday and the project will continue for the next three weeks. The city says the purpose of flushing is to clean out the water mains and to ensure the hydrants are in good working order in case of an emergency.
The project can affect traffic and water pressure. The city advises community members that they should find an alternative route if they notice a hydrant running.
Residents may notice low water pressure, though the city details that it should return to normal within 30 minutes. The city adds that residents should refrain from washing laundry while they have low pressure and if they have colored water.
The city suggests to keep the faucet running for five minutes if colored water is present. If it still remains dirty after that, contact Perry Public Water Works.
