The Greene County Board of Supervisors met on Monday in regular session.

During reports, Greene County Attorney Thomas Laehn addressed the Board on several topics. He commended the work by local law enforcement following the jury conviction of first degree murder against Christene Thompson, who shot and killed her husband and that she also pled guilty to an additional charge of domestic abuse assault with a dangerous weapon. Her sentencing is scheduled for June 5th.

Laehn also talked about the case against Nolan Wilson, who was accused of the death of a baby, that on the morning that another jury trial was supposed to commence last week, he pled guilty to two charges, with one being a felony for child endangerment resulting in death that carries a 50 year prison sentence, which that hearing is to take place on June 30th.

Laehn also mentioned the third murder case against Sebastian Ramirez for an alleged killing via a gunshot that happened last month, was set for a hearing for a trial scheduling conference on May 28th.

He stated that one of his first criminal cases he prosecuted as the assistant county attorney was against James Exline, who was convicted of sexually abusing his daughter and was sentenced to 75 years in prison back in 2018, has exhausted all of his appeals claiming his attorney was not competent and therefore, he didn’t get a fair trial. Laehn mentioned that the civil judge recently upheld that Exline did get a fair trial, and so Exline has no more options to plea and will send the rest of the sentence in prison.

Greene County Zoning and Environmental Administrator Chuck Wenthold gave an update on the Greene County Courthouse HVAC project. He said the crane will be used on Tuesday to set the chiller unit on the roof. He added that crews are about one-quarter of the way done replacing the roof.

County Engineer Wade Weiss stated that work on County Road E-26 from the city of Dana to the Boone County line is almost finished with crushing the existing pavement before moving to apply new concrete by the second week of June.

The Board then approved a resolution to hire Sandy Groves as a full-time dispatcher for the Greene County Sheriff’s Office with an annual salary of $45,000 and she will start May 25th. They also approved another resolution to hire Michael Glover as a part-time Emergency Medical Technician for the Ambulance Department, with an hourly wage of $22.50 and he started on May 8th.
