A middle school student has been selected to have their self-made design featured during upcoming elections in Dallas County.
Auditor Todd Halbur says Kyrsten Cable, an Adel-DeSoto-Minburn sixth grade student, is the winner of the second “I Voted Sticker Contest. He presented Cable with a certificate during Tuesday’s Dallas County Supervisors meeting and a selfie station with her winning entry is located inside the Auditor’s Office near the early voting polls for the June 2 Primary Election.
Halbur shares that the contest was open to sixth through eighth grade students in Dallas County. He details that a public vote among the six finalists was held from March 10 through April 7 through the Dallas County website. Cable was declared the winner, earning 302 out of a total of 530 votes cast.
She was surprised to learn that her design was selected as the winning entry.
“I always thought that drawing was really fun and my dad came and told me there’s a sticker contest you should join. I joined it and I didn’t think I would win because there’s computer ones, but I did it just for the fun of it. I was surprised because there’s a lot of other good drawings, so it felt good to be chosen.”
Halbur talks about what he enjoys about the annual sticker contest.
“I think it’s a great way to engage our youth and it’s a connection to the adults. It’s a connection to their parents, to their other siblings and grandparents in a creative way, just to get that civic pride out there to show that they can creatively be involved.”
With the June 2 Primary Election right around the corner, Halbur encourages voters to head to the polls, cast their ballot and receive the newest “I Voted” sticker designed by Cable.
