The Greene County High School softball team lost at home in Jefferson Wednesday night to Saydel (Des Moines) by a score of 6-3 to fall to 6-5 on the season and 3-4 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. The Rams have lost three games in a row and the task gets even tougher tonight when Coach Tom Kennedy’s team hosts 2015 Class 3A State Champion Solon in Jefferson with the JV at 5 p.m. and varsity around 6:45 p.m. The Spartans are ranked third and the game was arranged just this week.

Saydel (8-2, 4-1) scored three times in the first inning and led by as many as four runs and as few as two throughout the contest. The Eagles had 10 hits for the night off Greene County pitcher Hannah Promes, who went the distance. Kaylee Polke went all seven innings for the Saydel victory, allowing five hits. Two Rams accounted for all five as Samantha Hardaway went three for three with two doubles and a single, and Megan Carey tripled and singled. Promes had the lone run batted in for the Rams as she drove in a run with a SAC fly.
