Greene Co Supervisors 6_6The Greene County Board of Supervisors met Monday in regular session.

During open forum, Deb McGinn with Jefferson Matters: Main Street reviewed with the Supervisors the results of their Ring Out for Art contest during Bell Tower Festival. The top three sculptures will be moved from the north side of the courthouse to the south plaza and kept on the courthouse grounds until May 1, 2017. The non-winning sculptures will be removed by June 30th.

Also during open forum, Jefferson Parks and Recreation Director Vicky Lautner asked the Board for a letter of support to connect some of the City parks to the Raccoon River Valley Trail through a national parks grant. The Supervisors indicated that they would give their support, pending a finalized draft of the letter.

Jefferson City Administrator Mike Palmer then gave an update. He said the roofs on the former Linda’s Fashion building will be finished this week and the roof  at 205 North Wilson Avenue is already completed. Plans are to install a new roof on 200 East State Street building soon. Building plans are still being worked for a new animal shelter, with discussions taking place about hiring a company to do the project privately, so it doesn’t have to be put out for bids.

The Board then approved the final pay estimate of $35,970 for a project on drainage district 108, following a hearing. The Board tentatively approved the engineer’s report for a repair and improvement project in drainage district 2 as presented.

The Board also approved three fireworks permits for Erick Brinks, Deanna McDonald and Jack Williams, along with the County Treasurer’s investment report of $6,180,795 for May and issuing 196 driver’s licenses last month.

Finally, the Board canvassed last Tuesday’s primary election results. There was little change to the voting outcome for the two contested, local Republican races. Jack Williams was the official winner with 752 to Kirk Hammer’s 340 votes. As for Supervisor District Five, Peter Bardole was the official winner with 567 to Guy Richardson’s 502 votes. All other outcomes also remained the same.
