After starting the week with a lopsided loss, the Greene County High School softball team has won three games in a row and evened its season record at 11-11. The latest victory was Thursday night at Ft. Dodge vs. St. Edmond in non-conference play, 11-5. The Gaels fell to 2-16. Both Greene County and St. Edmond had third place State Tournament teams in 2015; the Rams in Class 3A and the Gaels in 2A.
Greene County pounded out 15 hits on Thursday night with seven different playing each collecting two. Sydney Koch and Hannah Promes each doubled and singled, while Carleigh Paup, Megan Carey, Jenna Beyers, Tieryn Tucker, and Laurin Lyons each had two singles. Izzy Bravard added a base hit. Paup, Kock, and Beyers each drove in two runs with one RBI for Bravard and Promes.
There were 11 errors charged to the two teams with six by St. Edmond and five for the Rams. Promes was the winning pitcher and she allowed four earned runs on eight hits and no walks. The right-hander struck out three.
Greene County started quickly with three runs in both the first and second innings. They added three more in the fifth, then scored single runs in the sixth and seventh. St. Edmond had three runs in the third and two in the fifth.
Greene County doesn’t play softball tonight. The Rams play three times tomorrow in the South Hardin tournament. They’ll start the day vs. South Hardin (Eldora) in Stanhope.
