Greene County SheriffA Jefferson man was air-lifted to a Des Moines hospital following a two vehicle accident Wednesday.

Greene County Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 4:05pm a deputy, Rippey and Grand Junction Fire departments, Grand Junction Rescue and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to the crash at U Avenue and 320th Street.

Fifty year-old Robert Eric Muir of Rippey was traveling south on U Avenue when his 2016 Ford F-350 pickup was hit by a 2009 Chevrolet K-3500 pickup heading eastbound on 320th Street, that was driven by 68 year-old Jerry Dean Dennhardt of Jefferson. Haupert notes that there was a posted stop sign for the Dennhardt vehicle. Both vehicles ended up in the southeast ditch, with Dennhardt’s pickup coming to a rest on its top. The Dennhardt vehicle was also pulling a 5th wheel gooseneck trailer with hay bales. One bale came off and struck Muir’s vehicle causing additional damage to the right side.

Both drivers were transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County EMS and Grand Junction Rescue. Dennhardt was later taken by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital with unknown injuries. Airbags were deployed in both vehicles, which are considered to be total losses.

The investigation is ongoing by the Sheriff’s office with possible charges pending.
