Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright has been contacted by larger neighboring counties about the possibility of forming a sort of regional jail agreement.
Arganbright tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the proposals do make sense, especially for a County with a small, older jail like Guthrie County has. “I think small county jails are all in the same boat, as far as keeping up with the State’s standards. That’s hard to do with an older jail, because we can’t classify and separate inmates like the state wants us to do. I think that’s why Carroll County and Dallas County (are reaching out to us). Adair County is a small county that did get a jail where they can do that separation. Our jails are outdated, so bordering counties are willing to talk, and I’m willing to talk to them to see what we can do to figure out this growing problem.”
There has not been official action taken on any proposal yet. Arganbright will give us a complete update from the Sheriff’s office today on Let’s Talk Guthrie County. It airs during the 9 a.m., noon and 5 p.m. hours on K107.9 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
