Greene County has 16 seniors out for football among at total of just over 80 players in grades 9-12. One of the seniors is Spencer Kirk, who told Raccoon Valley Radio he played football for East Greene in seventh grade, then did not go out again until last year. “I’m glad I did decide to come back. I think we have a hard working group of guys and I’m looking forward to playing, especially with my fellow seniors,” he said.
Kirk is physically smaller than he was five years ago, which is unusual and he explains. “I was on the line, but I don’t weigh as much as I used to. I was a seventh grader weighing 180 and now I’m down to a senior weighing 150. I used to be on the line, but I don’t feel like this year I could be anywhere on the right side because I can’t hear out of my left ear. Being on the left side of the line would be the best decision so I could hear.”
The Rams scrimmage Panorama in Panora in one week on Aug. 19, then open the regular season in two weeks (Aug. 26) in Carroll vs. Kuemper Catholic. The first day of full pads and full contact is tomorrow. All Greene County varsity football games can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalley radio.com.
