The Greene County Sheriff’s office is investigating a two vehicle accident where three people were injured.
Sheriff Steve Haupert says at 6:17pm Sunday, the Sheriff’s office, Jefferson Fire Department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to a crash at the intersection of 240th Street and H Avenue.
Fifty-six year-old Patrick Lee Rumley of Scranton was traveling west on 240th Street when he slowed his 2014 Ford F-150 pickup truck with a utility trailer to turn left onto H Avenue. Thirty-three year-old William Anthony Gifford of Scranton was also heading west on 240th Street in his 2001 Honda Accord, tried to pass a couple of vehicles on the left and hit Rumley’s pickup on the driver’s side, causing it to roll onto its side on the shoulder of the roadway. The Honda ended up in the southwest ditch.
The drivers of both vehicles, and a passenger in Rumley’s pickup, were taken to Greene County Medical Center with injuries. Gifford was later airlifted to a Des Moines hospital. Airbags deployed in both vehicles and everyone was wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident. Both vehicles are total losses.
Haupert adds that charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
