Greene County High School students playing football, running cross-country, or swimming, have all had their season opening competitions. Tuesday night the Rams get their turn in volleyball. Coach Donna Carhill’s Rams open play with a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference triangular at Saydel High School on the northeast side of Des Moines. They’ll take on both the host Eagles and the Gilbert Tigers.

The Rams return five letter winners from the 2015 squad that went 11-17. This much varsity experience is quite a change from a year ago when Nadia Fisher was the only Ram to have even played in a varsity match. Fisher was a second team all-conference hitter in 2015 and hitter Megan Durbin and setter Hannah Promes were both honorable mention all-conference selections.

The Rams play in Lake City at the South Central Calhoun tournament on Saturday, Sept., 3 before opening the home portion of the schedule on Sept. 8 vs. South Hamilton (Jewell) in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Greene County has just three home dates this season, and after Sept. 8 they won’t be at home until Oct. 13.
