Greene Co Supervisors 8_29A new county position will hopefully create efficiencies in the Greene County Attorney’s office.

The Board of Supervisors approved the creation of an assistant county attorney position at their meeting on Tuesday.

“I think I’ve needed an assistant before now, I think it’s due (and) most of the surrounding counties have assistants. The workload has just gotten too much (and) over the last couple of years. I’ve probably been a little late to the party in requesting an assistant. One of the big things that drove it home within the last couple of months is they’ve been scheduling me (to be at) two places at once, which is something that hadn’t happened before and I can’t be at two places at once.”

That’s Greene County Attorney Nick Martino. Board Chair John Muir says the position will help to alleviate the issues that Martino is facing.

“So with a position like this, we can use it for that and to educate somebody that maybe wants to get a feel for county attorney, public attorney service and see how that feels, without being elected. I mean get the experience without being elected first.”

The new position is suppose to go into effect for the 2018 fiscal year, starting next July 1st. Starting salary will be discussed at a future Supervisor meeting.
