The Greene County High School girls’ cross-country squad is led by senior Olivia Hansen, followed by several freshman with a junior or sophomore mixed in. The ninth graders have been generally been the two, three, and four runners for the Rams to this point of the season.
Freshman Izzy Bravard told Raccoon Valley Radio about the differences between cross-country in middle school and on the varsity level. “It’s a lot harder. The practices are harder and the races are a lot longer.” Instead of two miles in middle school, high school girls run the same distance as the boys, at five kilometers (3.1 miles). Bravard added the rigorous practices have prepared her and her teammates well for meets. “The practices we do makes the races easier for us, so that works out pretty good.”
The Rams have this week off from competition. They’ll next be in action on Thursday, Sept. 22 in Story City for the Roland-Story Norsemen Invitational.
